I am now in my 6th week, which means I'm in the last week of my post-op phased diet. The last four weeks of the post-op diet require me to only eat soft foods. The nutritionist freed me up to eat a little more, and I have certainly pushed the boundaries. I've eaten some chopped steak, grilled chicken, among other denser proteins and so far have experienced no significant issues.
As I put this chapter of my life behind me, and bid farewell to these restrictions, I am now forced to learn the glycemic index, as I will have to abide by a low glycemic diet the rest of my life. So here's yet another challenge and interesting learning curve.
As I've mentioned previously, the end of the sixth week also finally frees me up to start doing some resistance training. I'm thinking about joining a gym so I can start a little weight lifting. The goal here is to minimize the amount of loose flab that is likely imminent. I hope to hit the gym three times a week at lunch and use that to supplement my nightly walking routine.
Speaking of the walking routine, I've kicked it up a notch this week. With rain in the area Tuesday night, I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to walk. So I used a treadmill (more like dreadmill) to get a mile in, which was horrible. I don't see how anyone uses those damn things. It went by so slow and I felt like I was just watching the clock the entire time. After I got home and had some delicious meatloaf made by the wonderful wife, the rain stopped. So we went to the track and I walked another mile.
So far this week, I've walked three nights and have done 5.2 miles, doing at least 1.5 miles per night. I'm trying to walk the first mile as quickly as possible. I'm down around the 19 minute mark now. And then I idle back a bit and finish out the walk.
My body has settled into a nice rhythm of losing weight. It looks like I lose around 1/2 lb a day. The occasional day I'll log a full pound loss, but it's rare.
Yesterday, I consumed about 900 calories and burned over 400 by walking. So my net caloric intake was around 500. Not bad for eating 4 meals, along with 16oz of milk.
I'm enjoying life so much right now. Aside from work stuff, which I've recently been able to leave at the office, I stay relaxed and for the most part upbeat. It's such a great feeling knowing I'm making such positive changes in my life.
Thanks for all the support and for all those following and reading the blogs!
Weight this morning: 385.4 (-56lbs)
