So I've lost 85 pounds. I'm feeling more confident. Clothes fit better. My chest is poking out a little. The ego is inflated. All-in-all life is good right now.
There's nothing better to deflate a good ego trip than seeing a nutritionist.
Now, my nutritionist is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He believes firmly in positive reinforcement, and is the type that can just about nice you to death.
Armed with last month's log of food intake, I marched into his office full of pride and 100% positive I was doing 90% right. :-)
As it turns out, my percentages may have been a little off.
After analyzing my diet, he said I'm doing a great job of water, milk, and protein intake. However he said I'm consuming too many carbs and need to cut back on the complex carbs significantly. I haven't been a big bread or pasta eater since the surgery. So those two haven't been a big part of my diet. However I do typically have 4 or 5 club crackers as an afternoon snack.
That will now have to stop. He suggested substituting fruit.
In addition, the other big critique actually came with regards to my exercise routine. He recommended walking LESS. And instead implementing some resistance training into my routine.
Basically, where I'm walking 5 nights a week now, he recommends I break that in half and either do two or three nights, and use the other two or three nights lifting weights or some other type of resistance training. So now I have to figure out a new routine. It's been easy to just hit the track and walk, but I understand the need for some muscle tone as well.
I'll likely start off with some pushups and situps at home. I'm still not sure about joining a gym. The thought of working out in front of other people isn't appealing, and has been one of the main reasons I have not incorporated this type of training into my regimen.
I've dropped my BMI over 10 points so far - which is freaking awesome. And aside from those two recommendations, he said everything else looked on point.
So I'm taking this weekend off from exercising. I'm going to figure out my new routine and start implementation on Monday.
On a different note, I've started experiencing a few minor issues this week. I had a headache every day at the beginning of the week. Each day had at least one minor dizziness spell associated with it as well. My awesome family practitioner, Dr. Laura Lee Taylor, thinks it's either sudden drops in blood pressure or perhaps a drop in blood sugar. We're trying to flush it out, but it's nothing major at this point.
Thanks for all the support and compliments that I've received over the last few weeks. Your support is huge in helping me maintain focus and discipline.
Weight this morning: 356.6 (-85lbs)
Regards,
The Vanishing Taylor
